The High Court in Blantyre suspended an interdiction order which government issued to Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) director general Martha Chizuma.
The court, in the Civil Registry, granted Malawi Law Society (MLS) a permission to apply for judicial review, and went on to put aside a decision by the Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba to interdict Chizuma on January 31, 2023.
On 6 February, 2023 High Court Judge Mike Tembo granted Malawi Law Society (MLS) the order which is against Police prosecutor Levison Mangani, Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate and Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba.
Attorney General Thabo Chakaka-Nyirenda, has said that his office has been served with the order.
I have been served. I await instructions from the defendants and a decision will be made at that time," he said.
The MLS is a claimant in the matter while Zamba and Levison Mangani, a police prosecutor, are defendants.
The court's order means that Chizuma, interdicted for a leaked audio in which she discussed an ongoing corruption investigation with a third-party, is at liberty to return to her duties.
Chizuma interdiction by Secretary to the Office of President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba, arose so many talks as to others viewed the move as deliberate by President Lazarus Chakwera's administration to frustrate her efforts to fight against corruption.
